This weekend I had a scooch through my photographs looking for some inspiration when I realised I haven't uploaded anything from my trip to Shanghai!
So to make up for that little error here are some gems from my trip to the Jing'an Temple!
As we arrived we lit three incense sticks in an offer to cleanse and purify the surroundings, in keeping with Chinese Buddhist tradition. After which we wandered around the Temple taking the opportunity to take some beautiful pictures!
The temple grounds were built over 780 years ago and are now situated on the famous Nanjing Road West, the Temple is among the most famous within Shaghai. The Temple consists of three main halls; all of which are open to the public: The Mahavira Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings and the Three Sage Hall. The Mahavira Hall was my personal favourite and featured the largest pure jade portrait of Sakyamuni in Mainland China. Sakyamuni was one of the earliest Buddhist teachers featured in primary literature amongst Buddha himself. He stands 12 feet tall and weighs in at 11,000 kilograms!! Needless to say, he was pretty breath taking!!
